"the decision to address Mr. Abdulmutallab's actions through our criminal justice system has not, and will not, compromise our ability to obtain information needed to detect and prevent future attacks."
It is apparent to anyone who is even somewhat informed on the topic that this is not true. When given a lawyer and read their Miranda Rights (thanks Warren Court) the suspect becomes a black hole of information. This is evident in the recent case of the Underwear Bomber. It is also evident in Eric Holder's own words.
In 2002 in an interview with CNN's Paula Zahn, Holder said this about getting John Walker Lindh to talk:
"Well, I mean, it's hard to interrogate him at this point now that he has a lawyer and now that he is here in the United States. But to the extent that we can get information from him, I think we should."
Lindh was the first American citizen captured while fighting in Afghanistan on the side of the Taliban against U.S. forces.
