The Church of England under King James I was persecuting anyone and everyone who did not recognize its absolute civil and spiritual authority. Those who challenged ecclesiastical authority and those who believed strongly in freedom of worship were hunted down, imprisoned, and sometimes executed for their beliefs. A group of separatists first fled to Holland and established a community.
"After eleven years, about forty of them agreed to make a perilous journey to the New World, where they would certainly face hardships, but could live and worship God according to the dictates of their own consciences. On August 1, 1620, the Mayflower set sail. It carried a total of 102 passengers, including forty Pilgrims led by William Bradford. On the journey, Bradford set up an agreement, a contract, that established just and equal laws for all members of the new community, irrespective of their religious beliefs. Where did the revolutionary ideas expressed in the Mayflower Compact come from? From the Bible. The Pilgrims were a people completely steeped in the lessons of the Old and New Testaments. They looked to the ancient Israelites for their example.
"And, because of the biblical precedents set forth in Scripture, they never doubted that their experiment would work. But this was no pleasure cruise, friends. The journey to the New World was a long and arduous one. And when the Pilgrims landed in New England in November, they found, according to Bradford's detailed journal, a cold, barren, desolate wilderness. There were no friends to greet them, he wrote. There were no houses to shelter them. There were no inns where they could refresh themselves. And the sacrifice they had made for freedom was just beginning. During the first winter, half the Pilgrims – including Bradford's own wife – died of either starvation, sickness or exposure. When spring finally came, Indians taught the settlers how to plant corn, fish for cod and skin beavers for coats.
"Life improved for the Pilgrims, but they did not yet prosper! This is important to understand because this is where modern American history lessons often end. Thanksgiving is actually explained in some textbooks as a holiday for which the Pilgrims gave thanks to the Indians for saving their lives, rather than as a devout expression of gratitude grounded in the tradition of both the Old and New Testaments. Here is the part that has been omitted: The original contract the Pilgrims had entered into with their merchant-sponsors in London called for everything they produced to go into a common store, and each member of the community was entitled to one common share. All of the land they cleared and the houses they built belong to the community as well. They were going to distribute it equally. All of the land they cleared and the houses they built belonged to the community as well.
"Nobody owned anything. They just had a share in it. It was a commune, folks. It was the forerunner to the communes we saw in the '60s and '70s out in California – and it was complete with organic vegetables, by the way. Bradford, who had become the new governor of the colony, recognized that this form of collectivism was as costly and destructive to the Pilgrims as that first harsh winter, which had taken so many lives. He decided to take bold action. Bradford assigned a plot of land to each family to work and manage, thus turning loose the power of the marketplace. That's right. Long before Karl Marx was even born, the Pilgrims had discovered and experimented with what could only be described as socialism. And what happened? It didn't work!"
"It never has worked! "What Bradford and his community found was that the most creative and industrious people had no incentive to work any harder than anyone else, unless they could utilize the power of personal motivation! But while most of the rest of the world has been experimenting with socialism for well over a hundred years – trying to refine it, perfect it, and re-invent it – the Pilgrims decided early on to scrap it permanently. What Bradford wrote about this social experiment should be in every schoolchild's history lesson. If it were, we might prevent much needless suffering in the future. 'The experience that we had in this common course and condition, tried sundry years...that by taking away property, and bringing community into a common wealth, would make them happy and flourishing – as if they were wiser than God,' Bradford wrote.
"'For this community [so far as it was] was found to breed much confusion and discontent, and retard much employment that would have been to their benefit and comfort. For young men that were most able and fit for labor and service did repine that they should spend their time and strength to work for other men's wives and children without any recompense ... that was thought injustice.' Why should you work for other people when you can't work for yourself? What's the point? Do you hear what he was saying, ladies and gentlemen? The Pilgrims found that people could not be expected to do their best work without incentive. So what did Bradford's community try next? They unharnessed the power of good old free enterprise by invoking the undergirding capitalistic principle of private property.
"Every family was assigned its own plot of land to work and permitted to market its own crops and products. And what was the result? 'This had very good success,' wrote Bradford, 'for it made all hands industrious, so as much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been.' Bradford doesn't sound like much of a Clintonite" I wrote then "does he? Is it possible that supply-side economics could have existed before the 1980s? Yes. Read the story of Joseph and Pharaoh in Genesis 41. Following Joseph's suggestion (Gen 41:34), Pharaoh reduced the tax on Egyptians to 20% during the 'seven years of plenty' and the 'Earth brought forth in heaps.' (Gen. 41:47) In no time, the Pilgrims found they had more food than they could eat themselves.
"Now, this is where it gets really good, folks, if you're laboring under the misconception that I was, as I was taught in school. So they set up trading posts and exchanged goods with the Indians. The profits allowed them to pay off their debts to the merchants in London. And the success and prosperity of the Plymouth settlement attracted more Europeans and began what came to be known as the 'Great Puritan Migration.'" But this story stops when the Indians taught the newly arrived suffering in socialism Pilgrims how to plant corn and fish for cod. That's where the story stops, and the story basically doesn't even begin there. The real story of Thanksgiving is William Bradford giving thanks to God for the guidance and the inspiration to set up a thriving colony. The bounty was shared with the Indians. They did sit down and they had dinner, and I think they had a turkey, but it was not the Indians who saved the day. It was capitalism and Scripture which saved the day."
Just kidding...he did make a happy Hajj/Eid-ul-Adha statement though.
The LA Times has a transcript of Obama's Happy Thanksgiving Eid-ul-Adha statement:
Michelle and I would like to send our best wishes to all those performing Hajj this year, and to Muslims in America and around the world who are celebrating Eid-ul-Adha. The rituals of Hajj and Eid-ul-Adha both serve as reminders of the shared Abrahamic roots of three of the world’s major religions.
During Hajj, the world’s largest and most diverse gathering, three million Muslims from all walks of life – including thousands of American Muslims – will stand in prayer on Mount Arafat. The following day, Muslims around the world will celebrate Eid-ul-Adha and distribute food to the less fortunate to commemorate Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son out of obedience to God.
This year, I am pleased that the Department of Health and Human Services has partnered with the Saudi Health Ministry to prevent and limit the spread of H1N1 during Hajj. Cooperating on combating H1N1 is one of the ways we are implementing my administration's commitment to partnership in areas of mutual interest.
On behalf of the American people, we would like to extend our greetings during this Hajj season – Eid Mubarak.
What a slap in the face of America and her people!
Navy SEALs recently captured one of the most wanted terrorists in Iraq. The terrorist was wanted for masterminding the mutilation and murder of four Blackwater security guards in Fallujah.
Now three of the SEALs are being charged with assault for ...wait for it....ROUGHING UP THE TERRORIST.
Neal Puckett, an attorney representing the SEALs, told Fox News the SEALs are being charged for allegedly giving the detainee a “punch in the gut.” “I don’t know how they’re going to bring this detainee to the United States and give us our constitutional right to confrontation in the courtroom,” Puckett said. “But again, we have terrorists getting their constitutional rights in New York City, but I suspect that they’re going to deny these SEALs their right to confrontation in a military courtroom in Virginia.”
On page 432 of the Reid bill, there is a section increasing federal Medicaid subsidies for “certain states recovering from a major disaster.”
The section spends two pages defining which “states” would qualify, saying, among other things, that it would be states that “during the preceding 7 fiscal years” have been declared a “major disaster area.”
I am told the section applies to exactly one state: Louisiana, the home of moderate Democrat Mary Landrieu, who has been playing hard to get on the health care bill.
In other words, the bill spends two pages describing would could be written with a single world: Louisiana. (This may also help explain why the bill is long.)
Senator Harry Reid, who drafted the bill, cannot pass it without the support of Louisiana’s Mary Landrieu.
How much does it cost? According to the Congressional Budget Office: $100 million.
You can read the language of the bill at the link above.
I fear that HELLthcare will pass the Senate this Saturday as it already has in the House. If, and if it does not, pass Reid needs to be gone. Voted out. That's the only way these liberal congressmen are going to get it.
There he goes again...strayin' from the teleprompter and letting something leak.
The only use he has for the military is to have is picture taken in front of them so that back home the American people think that they all agree with what Obama is doing in the Middle East.
Let me show you who loves the troops and who the troops love.
Pro-Amnesty group ANSWER showed up at an anti-illegal immigration protest to show their support for the opposing opinion beat the hell out of conservatives exercising their First Amendment right to protest.
One of the attacked was a 62 year-old man who was kicked in the face while down.
Michelle! What can we do for you! Hurry tell us fast! We just want to please you!

It's the logical thing to do, right? Michelle Obama now has the unlimited money supply of taxpayer wallets at her disposal so she hires The largest staff of any First Lady...ever. Why? Well the First Lady has important things she needs help with like....uh....planting a garden......and uh.....going to the farmer's market. Yeah, that's it! She's sooo busy that she needs her own personal makeup artist too. What's that you say? But what about the economy? And spending taxpayer money while they struggle so she can have someone to help her hang out? Well...uh...it's her right as the uh....First Lady of the first black President. Yeah, that's it.
Why didn't she hire a personal stylist then?
Look at all those belts...I think that one holds ammunition.
Michelle at a funeral where everyone else is wearing black.
The President has conceded to be interviewed by FOX news, who he said isn't a real news source, Wednesday at 9 pm eastern time. The interview will last 10 min aprox. in kind of a round robin style interview with other networks.
It's a way for him to make a short appearance on FOX to try and appease those who think he is yellow for not coming on FOX.
Obama did it again!
Why does Obama insist on bowing to foreign royalty?
The video below happened right after he was made President,
and this happened just this weekend on his visit to Japan.
Why didn't Obama bow before the Queen of Englan during his visit across the pond? He could've at least followed the lead of Michelle O. (Her blunder was not as deliberate as it was ingorant.)
Obama wasn't just looking for his contact when he greeted King Abdullah and he isn't asking the Emporer if he has anything in his hair.
The fact is that Obama holds the United States in contempt and sees the Japanese and Saudi cultures as superior to that of the United States.
The bows are nothing but apologies for what the US has done in the past before he was president.
Let's not be shocked then when he bows to Ahmadinnerjacket and Kim Jong Ill when and if he meets with them.
Remember during the campaign when Obama didn't put his hand over his heart for the National Anthem? You should. The blogosphere was going crazy about it and even the mainstream peripheral media covered it.
You'd think that after everyone noticed and there was a huge deal made about it (and there should be) he would change his behavior. He did when it was brought to his attention that it meant alot to the American people that he didn't wear a flag pin.
Well either his teleprompter wasn't on yet, he's abscent-minded, or he deliberately didn't salute the flag... again.
So we all know by now that Obama didn't make it to the fall of the Berlin Wall Anniversary and the reason we've been given is that he was too busy meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu, signing an executive order, and attending a briefing or two. We were told that the President is a busy guy and wasn't just "skipping" it. National Review has found that there was a huge gap in his schedule from 11 AM to 6.45 PM where he could have attended.
And a picture from the White House web site photo-of-the-day section shows that he was actually enjoying himself out in the garden on his "extremely busy" day.
"I wish I could go to the Anniversary of the Berlin Wall coming down but this MAD magazine is so good."
Obama laughs about the unemployment rate and the economy on 60 Minutes:
Obama give "shout outs" before addressing the Fort Hood murders:
There is something about him that is off . Link is busted due to updates on the site. Go here http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/11/when_our_military_is_attacked.html
Is he schizoid (a detached, asocial person)? Bipolar (manic depression)? Does he have a brain syndrome? What about Asperger's (high-functioning autism causing a defect in social skills)?
Is something wrong medically -- a hormone or blood-sugar imbalance, a head injury, too many drugs in his youth?
Or is his disconnect caused by damage from childhood, from being raised by freaky people?
Barack, Sr. was an abusive alcoholic and a bigamist. Obama's mother, like my former friend Barbara, made decisions about little Barry that showed little parental concern, like schlepping him to Indonesia, then back to the States, then wanting to return with him to Indonesia (he stayed with his grandparents).
Obama's grandfather Stanley was impulsive and volatile; he was expelled from high school for punching his principal.
Stanley weirdly named Obama's mother "Stanley" because he wanted a boy. He anointed Frank Marshall Davis, an alleged pedophile and avowed communist, as young Barry's mentor. In his autobiography, Obama reports feeling uncomfortable at having to listen to sexually charged, drunken trash-talk between Stanley and Frank.
All grown up, Obama remains hermetically sealed. Although he's been a media star for a couple of years, we have no idea who he is inside.
When I envision the youth of other public figures, my impressions are vivid:
Little Bill Clinton: people-pleaser, Mama's boy, showoff.
Young Hillary: brainiac, smartest girl in school, bossy.
W: wisecracker, class clown, smart-aleck.
McCain: impetuous, volatile, ornery.
Sarah: sweet, popular, every teacher's favorite, Miss Congeniality.
In Japan now who's government runs their healthcare, once a year employees of every company must be subjected to a waistline test, among other things, to determine fitness. The goal is 33.5 inches for men and 35.4 inches for women. If you don't meet the goals then you get to lay on some shrinks couch a few times a week and the company must pay higher premiums for your healthcare...and that can't be good for your job. This is similar to the United States' Safeway Amendment which says that the health, fit people can pay lower premiums.
Japan is already the thinest industrialized nation in the world, that seems good enough to me. Oh, and what's going to happen to sumo wrestling?! If sumo wrestling dies then we're all in trouble!
In South Carolina right now it is being debated whether or not to have as one of many options for a license plate, the one pictured above with a stained-glass window and a cross. Many have been made but there are some who are sueing the state saying that they don't want the state endorsing a religion.
The state isn't really sponsoring religion if it is one of many religions that can be embossed on a license plate.
Guaranteed if it were any religious symbol but the cross there would be no one up in arms about the situation.
Rasmussen Reports ..er uh ...reports that 58% of likely voters say that it is likely that the next president will be Republican.
The report also indicated that 27% of voters think Hillary would be doing a better job as President.
Unless you've had your head in the ground for the last couple of days you've heard about the brutal murder of US soldiers at Ft. Hood in Texas.
Shortly after the White House recieved news about what had happened it was arraigned that the President would give a few remarks on the incident at a Tribal Nations Conference he was to speak at.
Obama starts to talk about how great the Dept of Interior is blah blah blah and then at about 30 seconds into the speech he gives a....(are you sitting down?)... shout out!
12 US soldiers were just massacred and 31 others wounded! Some are saying that this is the biggest attack by Muslim radicals on our soil since 9/11 and you take the time to give a shout out to a homie!? Why didn't he just tell everyone there that he would give remarks but it was time for some afternoon delight with his boo. That at least would have been less disturbing...shocking....but less disturbing.
After news broke out of the shooting at the Fort Hood Army post in Texas, the nation watched in horror as the toll of dead and injured climbed. The White House was notified immediately and by late afternoon, word went out that the president would speak about the incident prior to a previously scheduled appearance. At about 5 p.m., cable stations went to the president. The situation called for not only his trademark eloquence, but also grace and perspective.
But instead of a somber chief executive offering reassuring words and expressions of sympathy and compassion, viewers saw a wildly disconnected and inappropriately light president making introductory remarks. At the event, a Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Department of Interior's Bureau of Indian affairs, the president thanked various staffers and offered a "shout-out" to "Dr. Joe Medicine Crow -- that Congressional Medal of Honor winner."
An incident like this requires a scrapping of the early light banter. The president should apologize for the tone of his remarks, explain what has happened, express sympathy for those slain and appeal for calm and patience until all the facts are in. That's the least that should occur.
The disconnect between what Americans at home knew had been going on -- and the initial words coming out of their president's mouth was jolting, if not disturbing.
The author of the article at the end places blame mostly on his staff but any rational human being would have sensed the delicacy of the situation and adjusted accordingly, but not Obama. Regardless of the retarded staff we employ for the President, he is to blame for the poor remarks.
Just kidding. He's not an alien. But the TV show "V" depicts aliens coming to earth promising change and hope and just about everything Obama campaigned on.
From this video its easy to tell which way the writers of this show lean. And it's about time there is something produced by the Hollywood community that doesn't have a liberal twist to it. The last show that I can think of that had a conservative twist to it was The Dark Knight. Remember, the Joker was portrayed as a terrorist who just didn't care and Batman using cell phone (wire taps) frequencies to locate the bad guys? Anyway, it was laid on pretty thick.
15% of the House are currently under investigation for various ethincs violations. Thats 7 members of teh House...and they are all black. (Jesse Jackson Jr. would have made 8 but his homie in the Justice Dept. Eric Holder told the Ethics Committee to stand down.)
We have Charlie Rangel (D-NY)- tax cheat and using corporate funds to take members on trips. Maxine Waters (D-CA)- Gave TARP money to her husbands employer. Laura Richardson (D-CA)- Sweatheart mortgage. Carolyn Kilpatrick (D-MI)- For giving birth to her son Kwame Kilpatrick. Bennie Thompson (D-MISS)- Taking trips to exotic places on a Government Boeing jet on tax payers dime.
Donald Payne (D-N.J.)
Del. Donna Christensen (D-U.S. Virgin Islands)
This has put the Congressional Black Caucus on the attack because they think there is a racist conspiracy going on to target them and them only.
But recently there was a document leaked indicating that others who are possibly going to be investigated as well. They include: senior House Appropriations Committee members John Murtha (D-Pa.), Pete Visclosky (D-Ind.), Alan Mollohan (D-W.Va.) and Jim Moran (D-Va.) All white.
They surely will all come under investigation as they all have ties to the PMA Group which was a lobbying firm that recieved millions of dollars in earmarks from members of the Appropriations Committee and who in turn gave the lawmakers huge monetary contributions.
There is no conspiracy. The Ethics Committee is just doing its job and investigating all those with potential ethics violations. And for some strange reason they are all Democrats.
The trend that is global climate change made news today in Great Britain when a Judge ruled that green views are the “same as religious beliefs.”
Though we’ve long known it, the faith dimension of the environmentalists has been fully recognized by the UK judiciary. Does this mean that Al Gore can now officially be equated with the Son of God?
Cue the opening of the floodgates for a veritable sh*tstorm of entirely frivolous and wholly unnecessary lawsuits in the UK, not to mention reams of new legislation covering enviro-worship and affording these persecuted modern day prophets/martyrs with the protection of the State.
Once again, the UK is the trailblazer in setting moronic, not to mention insanely self-destructive, trends.
So how long will it be before this judicial masterpiece makes its way across the pond?
I have been asked to talk about what I consider the most important challenge facing mankind, and I have a fundamental answer. The greatest challenge facing mankind is the challenge of distinguishing reality from fantasy, truth from propaganda. Perceiving the truth has always been a challenge to mankind, but in the information age (or as I think of it, the disinformation age) it takes on a special urgency and importance.
I studied anthropology in college, and one of the things I learned was that certain human social structures always reappear. They can't be eliminated from society. One of those structures is religion. Today it is said we live in a secular society in which many people---the best people, the most enlightened people---do not believe in any religion. But I think that you cannot eliminate religion from the psyche of mankind. If you suppress it in one form, it merely re-emerges in another form. You can not believe in God, but you still have to believe in something that gives meaning to your life, and shapes your sense of the world. Such a belief is religious.
Today, one of the most powerful religions in the Western World is environmentalism. Environmentalism seems to be the religion of choice for urban atheists. Why do I say it's a religion? Well, just look at the beliefs. If you look carefully, you see that environmentalism is in fact a perfect 21st century remapping of traditional Judeo-Christian beliefs and myths.
There's an initial Eden, a paradise, a state of grace and unity with nature, there's a fall from grace into a state of pollution as a result of eating from the tree of knowledge, and as a result of our actions there is a judgment day coming for us all. We are all energy sinners, doomed to die, unless we seek salvation, which is now called sustainability. Sustainability is salvation in the church of the environment. Just as organic food is its communion, that pesticide-free wafer that the right people with the right beliefs, imbibe.
Eden, the fall of man, the loss of grace, the coming doomsday---these are deeply held mythic structures. They are profoundly conservative beliefs. They may even be hard-wired in the brain, for all I know. I certainly don't want to talk anybody out of them, as I don't want to talk anybody out of a belief that Jesus Christ is the son of God who rose from the dead. But the reason I don't want to talk anybody out of these beliefs is that I know that I can't talk anybody out of them. These are not facts that can be argued. These are issues of faith.
And so it is, sadly, with environmentalism. Increasingly it seems facts aren't necessary, because the tenets of environmentalism are all about belief. It's about whether you are going to be a sinner, or saved. Whether you are going to be one of the people on the side of salvation, or on the side of doom. Whether you are going to be one of us, or one of them.
The Telegraph notes that detainees at Guantanamo have it way too good and that they'd prefer to stay at Guantanamo than be sent to the Supermax prison:
It is reported that:
some detainees would rather stay put than go on trial in the US, where they would probably receive a life sentence or could wait years for a death sentence to be carried out.
"They know there will not be the same privileges as here," he said. "Given the choice of being sentenced forever in Guantánamo or moved to supermax, it is 'no, can I stay in Gitmo?'. Here they can be outside, they can smell the sea."
Camp guards and senior officers said similar feedback had been received from detainees fearing a tougher life in US jails or back home. The claims could not be independently verified as the Pentagon does not allow journalists to interview detainees, while lawyers for several prisoners did not return requests for comment.
The 221 remaining inmates receive between four and 20 hours outdoor recreation in the Caribbean sun and anything from weekly to almost unlimited access to DVDs and receive three newspapers (USA Today, plus one Egyptian and one Saudi Arabian title) twice a week. Every bed has an arrow pointing towards Mecca and every cell a prayer rug.
The detainees’ diet is exclusively Middle Eastern and halal, in observance of regional and religious sensitivities. Dates, olive oil and honey are provided daily and pita bread is baked on the premises. They drink the same bottled water as the prison’s staff and have the same access as other prisoners to 16,000 books and 1,600 magazines held at the library.
An escorted tour of Guantánamo by the Daily Telegraph revealed that Camp 7’s requested reading included Gardens of the World by Mick Hales, Fine Art Flower Photography by Tony Sweet and a copy of Birds and Blooms magazine, material in keeping with nature-bound leisure pursuits approved by conservative Islam. Two volumes of the Tales of the Arabian Nights were also in the pile. Tomes on Islamic theory are in plentiful supply and demand, said library staff.
At Supermax prison in Colorado the detainees would:
spend 22 ½ hours a day in a 9ft by 9ft cell with the only natural light coming from a skylight outside.
Exercise would be limited to an hour and a half indoors five days a week and they would have minimal contact with others, including the 33 other international terrorists held there. An official study found that most inmates suffer psychological trauma from the severe isolation.
Whatever is goin on at Ford Motor Co. should be looked at by the White House and copied to a "T."
This probably won't last for long though. As the above article states,
Last week, workers overwhelmingly rejected an agreement with the United Auto Workers that would have brought Ford's labor costs in line with rivals General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC. Workers objected to clauses limiting their right to strike and freezing entry-level wages, and felt the company was healthy enough and didn't need further concessions.
Obamas got the the unions working on Ford from the inside.
An article in The Boston Globe tells us that "the night's arrangements took a month or two to prepare."
I haven't seen it, but how long can it take to put a few pumpkins around and throw up some toilet paper. I can think of bunches of people who would love to TP the White House who would've done it and they would have been in and out lickety split.
With all the power and resources of the United States Government, a union grounds crew, and numerous staff members, it still took two months. Maybe there was a standing comittee formed to asses the validity of the decorations or maybe a vote was held by The Obamas and their advisors to determine if the hanging spider should be a black widow or a daddy longlegs.
If this is how long it really took to decorate the White House, imagine how efficient the government would be with supplying HELLthcare to all.
Were only a few months into the swine flu scare and government has already mishandled it just like Cash For Clunkers. If this isn't handled quick and if this flu is as big a threat as the media says it is then this could be Obama's Katrina.
